What's new in Sonari

The first version does one thing, and the whole app is built around getting it right. If an artist you follow puts out a record, it is in your feed - not ranked below something more popular, not folded into a weekly digest, not dropped because it was a single rather than an album.

What is in it

• The feed. Every release from every artist you follow, newest first. A list rather than a ranking, so nothing is left out to make room for something the app would rather show you.
• Following. Search for an artist and follow them, or bring your library across and follow everyone already in it.
• Notifications on release day, per artist, within about an hour of a record landing. They are on the free side and they stay there.
• Genres and recommendations, so a feed that has grown past a few hundred artists can be read one part at a time.
• Likes, playlists, and auto-add - a release from an artist you follow lands in a playlist without you opening the app.
• Following friends, and sharing what you have found.

Sonari plays music through the subscription you already have; it is not a streaming service and does not want to be one. Pro adds multiple auto-add playlists with rules per genre or artist, recommendations down to the album and the song, and advanced sharing - the pricing page has the full comparison.

What is not in it yet

No Android app and no web player. Everything below the feed - the mirror that watches for releases, the notification path, the playlist writes - runs server-side and is shared, so those are a client away rather than a rebuild.

Nothing here recommends its way around the feed, either. Discovery and completeness are different problems and this release is almost entirely the second one; there is a post about why.
